"If you don't know where you are going, you'll end up someplace else”: Yogi Berra
As winter wraps up and spring is days away, it’s a great time to reflect on your off season training regimen. It’s also a great time to start your process of goal setting for the upcoming season.
I could list a number of goals that one can shoot for however it’s not the point of this post. Goal setting is very personal. In the end, just take ownership and move forward towards getting there.
The first step in goal setting is coming up with something specific and concrete. Don’t cheat yourself. You can be very bold here or conservative. It’s your call. Better yet, it’s your goal.
Second step is to create a process for logging your progress. You could go old school and use a writing pad. You could go new school and look into an online platform. There are many out there.
Third step that I always recommend is get a heart rate monitor and use it. If you have one already, great but are you using it. A heart monitor is such a great asset to anyone’s program.
Fourth step would be to choose some goal races to test your progress. Keep in mind that these races are truly meant to assess how you are doing. The results will give you great feedback. You may need to tweak your training or stay the course. It’s all good.
A fifth step is to pick out two events to shoot for. You could choose more but I like two as a start. These will be the days that you will be looking to peak for.
There could be other steps that I could add here and there. For this post, let’s keep it simple.
Good Luck.
